Choosing the stone is the most important decision in a bespoke marble table. Each variety has its own veining, colour and character - and choosing well means a piece that suits your space and lasts. Here is a guide to the stones we work with, grouped by the feeling they create.
Classic whites: calm and versatile
Carrara is the timeless choice - a soft white-to-grey background with gentle, linear veining. It works with almost any palette and reads calm, making it ideal when you want the stone to enhance a room rather than dominate it. White Mugla and Galala offer similarly understated, accessible neutrals for serene interiors.
Statement marbles: drama and movement
For a true focal point, Calacatta Viola pairs a bright white field with bold veining and unmistakable violet tones - every slab is one of a kind. Arabescato brings dramatic grey veining for sculptural impact. These rarer stones are quarried in smaller quantities and waste more in cutting, so they sit at the higher end - but they carry a whole room on their own.
Dark and bold: depth and contrast
Marquina delivers deep black with striking white veins - perfect for modern, dramatic interiors and especially handsome paired with metal bases. Coloured and exotic stones like Red Jasper, Tiffany Ocean and Sea Wave add personality and a connection to nature for those who want something beyond white.
Granites: durability with character
If you want a harder-wearing surface, granite is naturally more resistant to scratching and staining than marble. Absolute Black granite offers sleek, uniform depth, while Magma Gold, Halayeb and Steel Grey bring distinctive natural patterning - excellent for tables that will see heavy daily use.
Practical considerations
- Durability. Marble is softer and more porous than granite, so it can scratch or etch from acids. Lighter marbles need a little more diligence; darker stones and granites are more forgiving.
- Care. Seal periodically, use coasters, and wipe acidic spills (wine, citrus) promptly. With simple care, a marble top stays beautiful for generations.
- Integration. Cool whites suit contemporary, minimalist rooms; warm and bold stones anchor spaces built around richer, natural tones.
A simple way to decide
Ask three questions: Should the stone be a calm backdrop or the star of the room? Will the table see heavy daily use or sit as a statement piece? And do you prefer predictable, consistent tones or unique natural variation? Your answers point straight to the right family of stones.
